Rock ‘n’ Roll San Diego: Half-Marathon

Why?

As I’ve stated before, I love the Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon series. They might have issues time to time (namely shirts/medals with their Mini marathons) but I enjoyed RnR Pasadena and RnR San Francisco. As an alum of San Diego State (GO AZTECS!) I know my way around San Diego and love the town. So when I noticed that RnR SD is their premier event I grab my Tour Pass and signed up quickly!


Expectations

The downside is that this race is near my wedding date so I might have to cancel at the last-minute if we need to get things done. I’d rather make sure things go smoothly at the wedding than run SD. If I do run it then I will have a fellow Pasadena Pacer running with me and I’m pretty sure we can hit 2:10. With every half I run I’m trying to get 5 minutes faster, seeing as how I ran 2:17 in SF and I’m shooting for 2:15 in Portland I believe 2:10 is possible for this race.


Training Schedule

With only two weeks between Rock ‘n’ Roll Portland and SD, I will not train much. I plan just take an easy 5k the weekend before and reset the week of the race.

LA River 5k

Why?

It’s for a good cause as all the funds go towards revitalizing the Los Angeles River. I got Meghann to join me so Team M&M will be at the ready. This race also fills the gap between Rock ‘n’ Roll SF and Rock ‘n’ Roll Portland. I love breaking up big races with some fun 5ks.


Expectations

I hope I can break my 5k PR, which now stands at 25:47 from the Pasadena Marathon 5k. Might be a bit tough since the Pasadena course was really flat and I knew the route.


Training Schedule

Only a 5k so I’ll just keep my regular running routine. Hopefully I will have some strong glutes by then.

Rock ‘n’ Roll Portland: Half-Marathon

Why?

I love Portland and I’ve made it a goal to run a race in each of my favorite cities. I started the list in my earlier post on the Conquer the Bridge post. I also plan on making this my Bachelor run since it takes place a few months before my wedding. I figure I can get a few friends to join me, drink a few beers Friday night and have a nice hearty dinner on Saturday before they cheer me on. It also gives me an excuse to stay at the McMenamin’s in downtown Portland, and yes I am a fanboy of that chain.


Expectations

This will be my second half marathon so I will have a time to beat. I would like to think that a few more weeks of training would let me shave a few minutes off from my first half. But to be honest, I’m going to just take in the view since I’ll be running across a few bridges and through a town that might be my future home.

4/13 – 10 – No, best I could manage was 4.73 of Hills
4/20 – 11 – Yes but in three events. One with Pacers, Autism Walk and Unity 5k Run.
4/27 – 10 – No, best was 6.70 of hills
5/04 – 12 – No, only ran 10.
5/11 – 6
5/19 – RACE DAY!

Santa to the Sea Half-Marathon: Relay

Why?

I wanted a race between Rock and Roll Los Angeles and Pasadena so a friend suggested I look into this race. I managed to get Meghann on board with the two person relay option. I will be running the first leg, 6.55 miles from the strawberry fields to the city and she will take the last 6.55 miles that finishes on the beach. We are also running with friends who live in the area. Look for Team M&M and Santa’s Little Helpers!


Expectations

I will be running along side another friend who runs often and hope we can keep each other on pace to finish in 50-55mins.

Why?

As I previously posted in the Conquer the Bridge post, I love bridges and want to race across them when I get the chance. I don’t really love San Francisco but this would give me a chance to explore a bit more of the city. A friend of mine lives in Japantown so hopefully he can show me that part of town. Here is an update on the Bridge list:


Expectations

This will be my second half-marathon so I will see how I set the bar in Pasadena. Since this would be the first of 3 in the same amount of months, I don’t want to push myself too much. I just want to take in the sights and enjoy the weekend.

CityRace Olvera Street

Why?

After the awesome experience we had during the last City Race, we quickly snatched up another Groupon offer when we got the chance. I highly recommend this series to anyone that loves to explore and loves trivia. Meghann suggested Olvera Street since it should still be decked out in Dia de los Muertos decorations and it will be easy to take the metro from Pasadena.


Expectations

We finished 10th during the Santa Monica version so I’m hoping we can make this a podium finish. We will not be screwed over by a damn trick question again!

Rock ‘n’ Roll Los Angeles: Mini-Marathon

Why?

It’s close to my birthday and runs through downtown Los Angeles. This will also be my first Rock and Roll Marathon event so I’m looking forward to see how well organized the event is… and how awesome the shirts/medals are! And, of course, I’m running for Team ASPCA and want to do well for them.


Expectations

I want to finish at 25 mins but most likely will clock in at 30 mins. Running this with Meghann, Robert and a few Pacers so the motivation will be there. Just hope all the training I’ve been adding will amount to a measurable improvement.


Training Schedule

Since this is only 3.5 miles, I am not on a real schedule. During last two weeks I will try to stick to running a sub 30mins 3.5 mi run.

Why?

What better place to do my first half marathon than in my own backyard? The Pasadena Pacers have a great training schedule that I will stick to. I know the streets well enough that I know what to expect and will be able to run the course a few times beforehand. It is also part of the Rock and Roll Tour Pass that I plan on purchasing so I can run the west coast series.


Expectations

First half… so just finishing will be awesome.

1/26 – 10 – No… ran 6mi total but chopped it into 2 runs
2/02 – 12 – No… ran 5.3mi in 50mins. Decided to switch to the 5k
2/09 – 6 – YES! oh and decided to switch back to Half… should be interesting
